Introduction to Barter Trading
Barter exchanges were created to provide a common
platform for members to trade on a common market place. Modern barter and trade
has evolved considerably to become an effective method of increasing sales,
conserving cash, moving inventory, and making use of excess production capacity
for businesses around the world.
In the United States, barter exchanges have more than 25
years of history, with hundreds of them in existence. In Australia and New
Zealand there are a handful of them. Some successful barter companies such as
ITEX Corp and IMS are publicly listed firms. On a yearly basis, barter trading
volume exceedsUS$12 billion in USA and A$1 billion in Australia & NZ.
